Formerly known as Dadiangas, the city was re-named after Gen. Paulino Santos, a former Commanding General of the Philippine Army. General Santos City is acknowledged not only as the Tuna Capital of the Philippines but also as the regional center for commerce and industry of the country’s geographical Region 12 four provinces and two cities of South Cotabato, Cotabato Province, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani and General Santos, more simply known by the region’s acronym, SOCCSKSARGEN.
